Chechero Creek falls-US 76

6/22/2013 - went back up to Rabun County to get some videos.  Couldn't get a good angle on the lower falls here, too much brush in the way.  Will have to try in the fall, after the leaves have dropped.  You can see from the video I did get what a difference the time of year makes!

12/18/2010 - on the way home from getting some other falls, I decide to detour and try for better pictures of the falls along Hwy 76. Got MUCH better ones and also found that there is a lower falls as well. I couldn't get near enough for a good angle on the lower falls...will have to go back and see if there's a way to walk up the creek and get nearer.

This time I did ask if the falls were named and the attendant said he was not aware that they had a name. The creek used to run down the other side of the highway, and an ice dam rerouted it. So, to keep it from running over the road, a culvert was put in to get it under the road.

According to GMAPS these falls are on Chechero Creek

11/7/2010 This falls can be seen from the trash compactor site on the right as you drive east towards Kingswood Golf course. I don't know if it has a name, I forgot to ask.

Directions and Information: from Clayton GA
  • go east on US 76
  • watch on the right for a trash compactor station
  • enter the station
  • stop at the office and let them know why you are there
  • falls can be seen through the fence at the far end, past the compactor, where the drive u-turns to go back to the highway
Note: The attendent said a LOT of water goes over when there's been rain, but there hadn't been much when I was there.
